Date: 22/01/26
Geography and Geology department of DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo HSS of Arts, Science and Commerce, Cujira, had organized a one-day trek to geological heritage site in Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary , Goa.
This trek was organized under the guidance of our renowned environmentalist, Mr. Rajendra Kerkar sir.
30 students participated in the trek. The students were accompanied by Sir Mr. Ajay Joshi, teachers Mrs Aparna Dhawalikar and Mrs. Pooja Morajkar and non-teaching staff Mr. Mukund.
The trail walk was for total 8kms through the dense forest. After walking around 4 kms trail a spectacular Limestone cave was encountered.
As we entered into the cave bats came fluttering out of the cave. This limestone deposit is one of the oldest deposit in Goa, older than Himalaya.
Limestone here is stratified and jointed. This site is restricted for general public.
It is only accessible with Forest dept’s permission. We were fortunate enough to have Sir Rajendra Kerkar with us to guide us through this journey.
Our group of students were the first one to visit this site. It was truely adventurous and learning experience both for students and we teachers.
