On the occasion of the French National Day celebrated every year on 14th July in France, the French Department of DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo HSS of Arts, Science and Commerce, Cujira, enthusiastically organized a short programme on 16th July 2026 from 11:45 am to 1.00 pm in the AV room.
The programme was graced by our respected Principal, Ms. Amelia R.J. F. e Barreto, and was attended by a total of 35 students studying French as the Second Language subject from Class XI and XII in the Arts, Science and Commerce streams.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the French Teacher, Ms. Joyce Jacob, who warmly welcomed the Principal, Ms. Amelia Barreto, the Chief Guest of the programme, and all the students for their gracious presence.
The Principal, Ms. Amelia Barreto, then addressed the gathering. She shared her insights on the significance of the French National Day and highlighted the enduring values of the French national motto, “Liberty, Equality and Fraternity,” encouraging students to uphold these universal ideals in their daily lives.
The celebration continued with an engaging mime performance by the students. Accompanied by a bilingual narration in French and English by Astrid Fernandes and Giles Carneiro, students class XII, the performance depicted the important historical events that led to the French Revolution and explained how these events gave rise to the French National values of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity, which inspire the entire world even today.
As a mark of respect for both the nations, the French National Anthem, La Marseillaise and the Indian National Anthem were played.
The programme was then followed by an informative presentation on the ‘Opportunities of Learning the French Language by Teacher, Ms. Joyce Jacob’. She highlighted the various French language proficiency examinations available for students wishing to enhance their language skills and spoke about scholarships available for pursuing higher education in France and job opportunities connected to the French language.
Next, the students presented a group singing performance of the iconic French classic “Aux Champs-Élysées.”
An exciting French Quiz was then organised for the students of Classes XI and XII. The participants enthusiastically competed against one another, demonstrating their knowledge of the French language, culture, history, geography, cuisine, and monuments. The Class XII students emerged as the winners and were presented with a token of appreciation by the Principal, Ms. Amelia Barreto for their excellent performance.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation by the Principal, Ms. Amelia Barreto to all the students in recognition of their active participation
The vote of thanks was given by Suzanne Pinto, a student of class XII.
