The Department of Portuguese of DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo HSS of Arts, Science and Commerce, Cujira, organized a Portuguese Orientation programme on 08 July, 2026.
The Guest Speaker for the programme was Dr. Paulo Gomes, Director of Fundacao Oriente Goa.
The programme was aimed at providing an enriching experience and broadening the students’ understanding of the Portuguese language and its relevance in today’s global environment highlighting the educational, cultural and career opportunities it offers.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gomes highlighted the rich historical and cultural heritage of the Portuguese language especially in the context of Goa.
He explained that learning Portuguese not only preserves the shared heritage, but also opens doors to higher education, employment, tourism, translation services, international business and cultural exchange programmes.
He threw light on scholarships, student exchange programmes, language certification courses and educational initiatives and work opportunities available for students interested in Portuguese.
The students also interacted with the Guest Speaker.
Principal. Mrs. Amelia Barreto gave the welcome address and introduced the Guest Speaker.
Mrs. Ursula Fatima De Souza, the Portuguese teacher expressed her gratitude to the Guest Speaker, School Management and the Principal.
The Vote of thanks was proposed by student, Ms. Gabriela Fernandes and Ms. Ruth Crasto was the compere.
Students, Kriss D’Souza, Deandra Gonçalves and Ms. Jeanette Afonso presented a Portuguese song.
