Study visit was conducted to School of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences in Goa University for Geology and Geography students of Std. XII from DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo HSS of Arts, Science and Commerce, Cujira, on 19/08/26 from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm
13 Geology students and 06 Geography students attended the study visit.
The Resource person was Mr. Mahesh Mayekar, Assistant Professor in Applied Geology, Goa University.
The objective of the study visit was to reinforce theoretical knowledge through direct real world observation and also to improve skills like inquiry and critical thinking.
The students visited the Geology museum where they came across a variety of Rocks, Minerals, Gemstones and Fossils displayed in the museum. Fossils like Ammonites, tooth of dinosaur, huge bivalve, stromatolite, Rocks like conglomerates, columnar Basalts, Asbestoses from Goa, Coal samples from Goa, shales , folded BHQ, zeolites, corals were some of the most interesting specimens.
Students also visited Ground water Recharge Pit site within the campus. The Resource Person, Mr. Mahesh Mayekar, explained about the working of recharge pit and how the same water is utilized in campus.
